CHART OF THE DAY: 1 In 5 YouTube Users Uploads A Video Each Month |
While Google is trying its best to get more professional content on YouTube, the site is still first and foremost about user generated clips. |
And while the vast majority of people using YouTube don’t post their own clips, a pretty surprising amount of people do. According to TubeMogul, 1 in 5 YouTube users have uploaded a video to the site in the last month. |
Looked at another way, advertisers ran over 783 million streaming-video ads on Hulu, but about 452 million on the second-largest online video property, the Tremor Media network, and only 219 million on YouTube.

Facebook Takes Third Spot in Unique Viewership
Ranking the top online video sites by unique viewer, Facebook.com jumped from fourth place in June 2010 to third place in July 2010 with 46.57 million unique viewers. Facebook narrowly beat Microsoft Sites, which had 45.56 million unique viewers for the month. Vevo, which was ranked third place in viewership in June 2010, dropped to fifth place with 43.91 million unique viewers. |

Google Sites, driven primarily by video viewing at YouTube.com, ranked as the top online video content property with 143.2 million unique viewers, followed by Yahoo! Sites with 55.1 million viewers. Facebook.com jumped one position to capture the #3 spot with 46.6 million viewers. Google Sites had the highest number of overall viewing sessions with 1.9 billion and average time spent per viewer at 283 minutes, or 4.7 hours. Hulu also had high viewer engagement with an average of 158 minutes (or 2.6 hours) per viewer. |

Top 10 Viral Videos - July 2010 |
After dominating the top 10 lists for much of the first half of the year in 2010, sports-themed videos only snared three spots on goviral’s top 10 viral video list for June 2010. In July 2010, only two of the top 10 videos could be considered primarily sports-themed. Both videos, a promotion for the Coca-Cola energy drink Burn and a video of a wipeout by the owner of California Skateparks, focused on the sport of skateboarding. |

The population of mobile video viewers in the US will grow nearly 30% in 2010 to reach 23.9 million, according to eMarketer’s forecasts. The still represents a reach of only 7.7% of the total population and less than 10% of mobile phone users, but those numbers are set to double by 2013 and increase still further in 2014.

The number of mobile video viewers, which includes people of any age who watch video content on mobile phones through mobile browser, subscriptions, downloads or applications at least once per month, will continue growing in the double digits for a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22.8% from 2009 through 2014.
